A spectacular circular coastal walk combining golden sandy beaches with dramatic clifftop views. Starting from Porthtowan Beach, follow the South West Coast Path eastward past Chapel Porth and Trevaunance Cove, enjoying stunning Atlantic vistas and mining heritage sites. The route passes through coastal farmland and quiet country lanes, with opportunities to visit traditional fishing coves. Return via inland paths through moorland and pastoral scenery, offering contrast to the dramatic coastline. Well-marked throughout with moderate terrain and several small hills. Perfect for photographers and nature lovers seeking an authentic Cornish coastal experience.


Walking Steps:

  1. Start at Porthtowan Beach Car Park – Park and head to the beach.
  2. Walk along Porthtowan Beach – Head east along the sand towards the cliffs (~0.5 km).
  3. Climb to coastal path – Follow the South West Coast Path heading northeast.
  4. Pass Chapel Porth (~2.5 km) – Enjoy clifftop views and visit the old mining engine house.
  5. Continue to Trevaunance Cove (~4 km) – Another historic mining cove with excellent views.
  6. Reach Ralph's Cupboard (~5.5 km) – A natural rock formation and scenic viewpoint.
  7. Turn inland – Leave the coast path and head south through farmland on country lanes.
  8. Walk through moorland (~7 km) – Peaceful inland section with open views.
  9. Return via quiet lanes (~9 km) – Follow farm tracks and quiet roads back towards Porthtowan.
  10. Return to car park (~10.8 km) – Arrive back at Porthtowan Beach.
