Perranporth to Watergate Bay Epic Coastal Trek

Walking Steps:

1. Start at Perranporth Beach Car Park (50.3317° N, 5.1083° W) – Arrive early, as this is a full day walk.

2. Cross Perranporth Beach – Walk across the wide sandy beach heading north (~0.5 km).

3. Climb to coastal path – Join the South West Coast Path heading northeast along cliffs.

4. Pass Droskyn Point (~2 km) – Dramatic headland with views back towards Perranporth.

5. Reach Ligger Point (~3.5 km) – Continue with clifftop walking, stunning Atlantic views.

6. Arrive at St Agnes Head (5 km) – Iconic red and white striped lighthouse. This is a major landmark. Rest here (15-20 min).

7. Descend to Trevaunance Cove (~6.5 km) – Beach and village with cafes and shops. Good opportunity for lunch break.

8. Climb out of cove – Steep ascent back to clifftop level (~7.5 km).

9. Walk to Chapel Porth (~8.5 km) – Historic mining cove, old engine house visible. Another chance to rest.

10. Continue along cliffs – Pass Wheal Coates mining site (~10 km).

11. Walk through Mawgan Porth headland section (~12-13 km) – Exposed, windswept section with excellent views.

12. Descend to Mawgan Porth Beach (~13.5 km) – Small village with facilities if needed.

13. Ascend cliffs again – Continue northeast on coastal path (~14 km).

14. Pass Watergate Bay headland (~17 km) – Cross high cliffs overlooking the bay.

15. Descend steeply into Watergate Bay (~20 km) – Long descent to the beach level.

16. Walk along Watergate Bay Beach – Finish at the beach or car park area (~22.5 km).

    • Start by 8:00 AM latest
    • Bring plenty of water and energy snacks
    • Wear waterproof jacket (coastal weather changes quickly)
    • Sturdy hiking boots essential for rocky sections
    • Apply sunscreen – cliffs offer no shade
    • Download offline maps (no mobile signal in places)
    • Consider arranging transport back from Watergate Bay to Perranporth
    • Several villages en-route offer food/drink stops

    This is a serious undertaking – only suitable for experienced hikers in good fitness!
