Experience one of Cornwall's most iconic coastal landscapes on this dramatic clifftop walk. Bedruthan Steps is famous for its towering sea stacks - massive rock formations that rise 60 metres from the beach like giant stepping stones. This spectacular route combines rugged coastal scenery, hidden coves, and panoramic Atlantic views. The walk takes you past the National Trust-owned Bedruthan Steps, along dramatic cliffs with breathtaking geology, and down to the expansive Watergate Bay with its golden sands and excellent surf conditions. Perfect for photographers, nature lovers, and adventure seekers.

Walking Directions:

Stage 1: Bedruthan Steps Car Park to The Stepping Stones Viewpoint Start at Bedruthan Steps National Trust car park Take the main coastal path heading north Follow the well-marked path along the clifftop Keep the sea on your right throughout Pass the information board about the rock formations Arrive at the main Bedruthan Steps viewpoint Stop to admire the massive sea stacks rising from the beach below The rocks are said to be stepping stones used by a giant in Cornish legend.

Stage 2: Bedruthan Steps to Porth Joke Cove Continue north along the coastal path from the viewpoint The path winds through coastal grassland with wildflowers Follow the blue and white coastal path waymarkers Pass several smaller rock formations and natural arches The cliffs gradually become steeper and more dramatic Descend slightly as you approach Porth Joke Cove You'll see the secluded cove nestled below the cliffs This is an excellent spot for a rest and photos.

Stage 3: Porth Joke to Watergate Bay From Porth Joke, continue north along the cliff-top path The landscape becomes more rugged with dramatic rockfaces Follow the path as it winds inland slightly through grassland Watch for gorse bushes and coastal flowers (especially in spring) The path curves back towards the sea Descend gradually towards Watergate Bay You'll see the wide sandy beach stretching ahead Continue down the sandy path to reach Watergate Beach Arrive at the expansive Watergate Bay with excellent facilities.

Stage 4: Watergate Bay Exploration Walk along Watergate Beach - one of Cornwall's best beaches Explore the sandy cove and rock pools Visit the beach cafe and facilities if needed This is an ideal lunch spot with great views.

Return Journey: Watergate Bay to Bedruthan Steps From Watergate Beach, retrace your steps back up the coastal path Climb back up towards the cliff-top Continue south past Porth Joke Cove Follow the path back along the dramatic cliffs Pass the Bedruthan Steps viewpoint again Continue south to return to the car park.
